Economists at CIMB Thai and Krungsri Securities warn the Bangkok floods could hurt the economy more than first thought, with more rain forecast and households facing repair costs that may push debt up. Krungsri estimates a GDP hit of about 0.2 percentage points, far smaller than the roughly 3 points lost in 2011, and industrial estates have not been hit as in 2011. SMEs short of liquidity may feel the strain for some time. Plan for slower sales and tighter cash flow, watch for government relief and compensation measures, and check whether your suppliers or customers in flood-hit areas are affected.
