The owner of Na Ladprao beer hall has been charged over the 12 July fire that killed 37 people, including a count of operating an entertainment venue without a licence. Bangkok inspectors checked 948 venues between 19 July and 4 August: only 209 passed, 632 were ordered to fix problems, and 107 were ordered to cease operations. Inspections cover 17 criteria including fire prevention and building safety. Minor faults get a chance to be rectified; serious violations face legal action.
