From the September 2026 bill, homes on temporary electricity meters (no permanent house registration) that have paid for at least 6 months move from 6.80 baht/unit to the household rate. The first 200 units are capped at 3 baht/unit. Check whether your bill has changed. If it has not, report it to ERC via LINE @ERCvoice or call 0-2207-3599. Relevant if you run a shop or rental where staff or tenants live on temporary meters, or if you can pass the saving on.

The US naval blockade has stopped most Iranian crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz since mid-July 2026, with August volumes estimated at 220,000-255,000 barrels/day versus about 2 million in March (Vortexa, Kpler). The US has also begun striking Iranian tankers under a new "tanker for tanker" policy from 1 September, which raises the risk of supply disruption in the Gulf. For a Thai SME, this is a signal to watch diesel and fuel costs, transport surcharges and energy-linked input prices over the coming quarter, rather than an immediate action item.

The SEC has released a draft rule raising the annual fee for investment advisers from 25,000 baht to 50,000 baht, and charging forex dealers 50,000 baht a year. It also widens the fee base for fund distributors and forex agents, including overseas and off-exchange deals. If you run a securities or derivatives-related advisory or dealing business, budget the higher fee for 2027. Comments are open until 5 Oct 2026 via the SEC website or the law portal.

The Digital Economy Ministry, with cabinet approval on 1 September, plans to sue THCOM (Gulf group) over a satellite concession it says was not honoured, claiming 1.259 billion baht in damages. KSecurities expects negative share-price impact and flags disputes over asset transfer and THCOM's management contracts with NT. For a typical SME this is a listed-company and satellite B2G matter; no action is needed unless you supply satellite or government telecom services.

Krungsri expects the baht to trade between 32.75 and 33.30 per dollar this week (7-11 Sep), after closing at 32.93 last week. Key drivers: US consumer price data due late in the week, which will shape whether the Fed hikes on 16 Sep, and the ECB meeting on 10 Sep (expected to raise rates to 2.50%). Thailand's current account deficit narrowed to USD 1.6bn in July, and the BoT says policy is still fully accommodative and not the time to cut rates. For importers and exporters, price quotes and FX hedges should use this range as the working baseline, with the Fed decision on 16 Sep as the next swing point.

Thai headline inflation rose to 2.53% y/y in August 2026, up from 1.95% in July, driven by domestic fuel, ready-cooked food, eggs, fresh chicken, vegetables and fruit. Core inflation is 1.44%. The Commerce Ministry expects Q3 around 2.37% and Q4 near 2.7% if the Middle East conflict persists, though its full-year forecast stays at 1.5-2.5%. For a small business, expect higher fuel, delivery and ingredient costs to persist through year-end. Review food and input pricing, and check whether rising costs can be passed on. Electricity prices fell, so that cost line is easing.

The Bank of Thailand will propose to Finance Minister Ekniti that SME loan guarantees be upgraded alongside the SME Credit Boost scheme run with TGCF (บสย.). The scheme has approved 65,319 million baht in loans over about six months (as of 28 Aug), against an 80,000 million baht target for 2026. The BoT says SMEs carry much higher credit cost (about 9.7%) than large firms (about 2%), so banks favour big borrowers. For an SME owner: guaranteed credit through this programme is likely to stay available and possibly expand, but the proposal is not yet approved and rates may not fall in full with policy cuts. Check with your bank about BoT-backed guarantee loans if you need financing.

Thailand's fuel sales in May 2026 were 148.39 million litres/day, down 4.2% year on year but up 4.3% from April. E20 sales rose 27% to 6.45 million litres/day, helped by a 5-baht price gap versus Gasohol 95. B20 diesel reached 3.68 million litres/day across 802 stations. NGV fell 8.8% and now has 257 stations. Fuel imports rose 25.7%, and the ministry says it is diversifying away from the Middle East. For fleet or logistics owners, the gap favours E20 for compatible vehicles. Airlines are cutting some routes in the low season, so plan around fewer flights.

Parliament is debating the 3.78 trillion baht FY2570 budget bill in its second and third readings, with a committee cut of 11,162 million baht. The cuts target projects that are delayed, no longer fit current conditions, or can be funded from other sources, and the committee flagged Middle East conflict risks and public debt. For an SME, this means government spending may be slower on delayed projects, so do not count on new public works or procurement payments landing on time. Review any pipeline tied to government contracts or grants and plan cash flow with that delay in mind.

Thai Airways cancelled TG433 Bangkok-Jakarta and the return TG434 after ash from Anak Krakatau closed eight Indonesian airports, including Jakarta's main Soekarno-Hatta. The Transport Ministry says 170,000 people were affected, and the closure end time is unclear. If your business has Jakarta trips, shipments or staff travel planned, rebook or check alternative routes and confirm with your freight or travel provider. Otherwise there is no action needed for most Thai SMEs.

Gold bars were marked down 400 baht this morning to 68,750 baht for sale, after the NY futures market fell on stronger-than-expected US jobs data (162,000 non-farm jobs in August). Markets now price a higher chance of a Fed rate hike; US CPI and PPI data come this week and the Fed meets on 17 Sept. If you hold gold stock or quote gold-linked prices to customers, expect continued swings and check your buy/sell spread before repricing.

A former FTA negotiator (per NESDC's Dr. Supawut) says Thailand under-estimated EVs when it agreed ACFTA, so Chinese EVs enter at 0% import duty. Separately, the EV excise rate is 2% for qualifying EVs, versus roughly 13%–50% for Japanese-brand cars, which the article says hurts Thai parts suppliers and could shift Toyota and Honda production to Indonesia. For a Thai SME, the practical read: cheaper cars may help buyers, but demand for conventional-engine parts could fall. Suppliers serving Japanese automakers should review their exposure and customer concentration.

US-Iran hostilities have dragged on into a seventh month and resumed with the strongest US strikes since July. As of 4 Sep 2026, WTI was about $91.48/bbl and Brent about $96.28/bbl, both up. ANZ says Brent could reach $95 short term if the Middle East risk premium persists (note Brent is already above that level in the article). Hormuz transits were 15 vessels on 3 Sep, below the prior 10-day average. Analysts say the strikes have not yet materially hit Middle East crude supply. For SMEs, expect pressure on diesel and fuel costs, transport and delivery surcharges; review fuel budgets and pricing for the coming weeks.

The spread between buy-in and sell-out on jewellery is about 2,400 baht, so price stock with that margin in mind.

The state enterprise policy office (SCP) has sent 3 state enterprises to the cabinet-level committee (คนร.) for rehabilitation plans, and 8 more are under review for options such as merger or reduced stake. Bus operator BMTA plans to lease 3,000 EVs (1,520 so far) on 7-year leases to cut fuel and maintenance costs by about 45%. The committee meets again in late September. For a typical SME there is no direct action now; watch for changes in state transport, rail and airport duty-free rules, and note that the SCP says the banking sector stands to gain most from a FTA-driven economic upswing.

The baht opened at 32.92 per dollar, roughly flat from Friday's close of 32.90. The dollar firmed after strong US jobs data (162,000 jobs added in August vs 56,000 expected), which raised bets on a Fed rate hike in September. The baht is expected to trade between 32.80 and 33.10 over the next 24 hours. Foreign investors were net buyers of Thai stocks (121.51 million baht) and Thai bonds (1,265 million baht) on Friday. For a small business, this is a short-term daily move with no action needed. Keep it in mind if you pay USD-linked imports or hold dollar receivables, and check quotes before large conversions.

The Meteorological Department forecasts heavy rain in parts of the North and Northeast, with about 60% of Bangkok and surrounds expected to get thunderstorms today. Rain is due to increase from 8–13 September, starting in the Northeast. For SMEs: plan deliveries and outdoor work around flood-prone low ground, and check stock stored at ground level. Sea waves are about 2 m in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, so boat operators should take care and avoid storm areas.
