Cyber police say over-60s lost 3.15 billion baht from Jan to Aug 31 in call-centre and online scams, about 28.55% of all reported losses from 8.07% of complaints. Investment scams caused the most losses, followed by threat calls, fake part-time jobs and reward schemes. September is a retirement period for many government and state-enterprise staff, who may receive lump sums. Brief older employees and family on the rule: hang up, don't call back numbers given by callers, check with the agency's genuine number, and never transfer money for an "investigation". Police do not ask for transfers.
