The government has started a national catastrophe insurance scheme from 1 Oct 2026, paying premiums for about 30 million households covering flood, storm and earthquake, with a cap of 100,000 baht per household. Cover applies only to fixed structures in a declared disaster zone; loose furniture, appliances, trees and fences are excluded. A 10,000-baht advance is paid for floods (5,000 for storm or quake) and is not clawed back. Business owners should check whether their premises qualify, since factories and businesses are not eligible as homes. Note that the article's cover rules apply to homes, not commercial buildings.
