PEA says fake documents and a fake LINE account ("PEA Thailand") are claiming to handle meter changes, billing and electricity deposit refunds, and asking for transfers. PEA does not collect cash on site or ask for transfers to personal accounts; payments go only through official PEA channels. Staff must show ID on every visit. Tell your accounting and front-desk staff not to pay or share data from such notices. Verify only via LINE @PEAThailand (green shield), www.pea.co.th, the PEA Smart Plus app from official stores, or call 1129.

The 2026 Social Security Board election for employer representatives has 85 candidate numbers, drawn from property, services, manpower-import, savings cooperatives and business associations. The board sets direction and welfare for a fund worth several trillion baht, which affects employer contributions and benefits. The article lists candidates only and does not say when voting happens or what rules change. If you want a say, check whether your SME association is running and watch for the voting schedule from the Social Security Office.

The PM, as interior minister, has ordered governors and district chiefs to use the new deportation regulation quickly against foreigners who work or run businesses without permits, illegally occupy land, or take advantage of Thais. Phuket, Surat Thani, Koh Samui and Koh Phangan are named as priority areas. If your business employs or partners with foreigners, check that their work permits and business licences are in order. Enforcement is now faster and less tolerant of gaps.

Reuters reports India's rice output may drop sharply, the largest fall in two decades, but government stocks are cushioning exports. Thai rice exporters and millers should watch global rice prices and competition for export buyers, since a tighter Indian supply could lift prices or shift demand. The EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR, EU 2025/40) has applied since 12 August 2026 and covers all packaging: boxes, plastic wrap, food packaging, paper cups, tea bags, coffee capsules, labels and e-commerce shipping packaging. It limits hazardous substances (lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium) and bans PFAS coatings in all food packaging. If you sell to the EU, check your packaging materials and design for recyclability now. The EU was Thailand's No. 3 export market in 2025 (US$26.49bn, up 9.45%), and exports there grew 20% in H1 2026, so the cost of adapting is worth planning this quarter.

A Reuters poll reports traders are betting on weaker emerging Asian currencies as the dollar firms and oil prices rise. For Thai SMEs, this points to possible baht weakness, which raises the cost of imported inputs and fuel. Check your import costs and pricing assumptions.

The Energy Policy and Planning Office says commercial energy use rose 0.9% in January-June 2026, with electricity up 6.0% and diesel down 2.4%. Diesel fell partly because prices rose amid Middle East tensions. Full-year energy demand is forecast to rise 1.4%. For a Thai SME, electricity use is growing fast while diesel demand is shrinking, so expect power costs and fuel prices to stay volatile. Review your diesel and electricity budgets for the rest of the year. No action is required from this report alone.

Transboundary haze from Indonesian forest fires has covered lower southern Thailand (Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat) for a third day. PM2.5 in Yala city reached 41.6 µg/m³, in the orange "starts affecting health" band. The deputy governor asked people, especially those with breathing problems, to wear masks and cancel outdoor activities. The haze is expected to persist through the weekend. For a business: plan outdoor work and events around this, and consider masks and indoor arrangements for staff and customers, especially where workers have respiratory conditions.

AWS says a data centre zone (mec1-az2) in the UAE was hit by fire on 1 March during the US-Iran conflict, and data stored only there cannot be recovered. AWS is still moving region-level and other-zone data out. For a Thai SME, the lesson is practical: keep backups in a separate location or zone from your primary cloud copy, and check where your cloud provider actually stores your data. Direct impact on Thai businesses is limited unless you host in the Gulf region.

Thai gold prices fell 350 baht on 17 Sep 2026 versus the prior close. Jewellery gold sells at 68,850 baht per baht-weight and buys back at 66,491.76; bars sell at 68,050 and buy at 67,850. The spread between buy and sell on jewellery is about 2,358 baht, so buying and selling back quickly costs a lot. The US Fed raised rates 0.25% to 3.75%–4.00%, and the Fed chair signalled higher-for-longer rates, which means costlier home, car and credit-card loans. If you hold gold stock or price gold jewellery, reprice in line with the morning moves and check the spread before you trade.

EEC secretary-general Chula Sukmanop proposed dedicated data-centre zones in the Eastern Economic Corridor, with new generation built for new demand rather than drawing on existing supply. Potential demand is at least 20 GW, and an indicative power cost of about 5-6 baht per unit was mentioned. Policy and the data-centre board's conditions are still pending, with no timeline given. For most small Thai businesses this is background: it may affect future EEC electricity prices and supply planning, but nothing needs to change now.

PM Anutin says Thailand has completed nearly all points of the US tariff negotiation and will press for a special, lower tariff rate, citing compliance with the Thai-Cambodian joint statement on demining and scam crackdown. Commerce Minister Suphajee will brief him on details on 18 September, and a leader-level call with the US President may follow. No final rate is announced yet. For exporters selling to the US, keep current tariff costing and watch for the outcome before repricing or committing to new US orders.

Chiang Mai's provincial treasury says the State Welfare Card and Thai Chuay Thai Plus (60:40 co-pay, 4,000 baht per person) have pushed spending to 3,903.89 million baht as of 5 Sept 2026, with 37,756 registered shops (99.16% small operators). About 1,983 million baht has gone to restaurants, cafes and local services. The scheme is expected to reach 4,800 million baht when it ends in September 2026, so the boost fades after that. Shops should plan for the post-scheme low season and watch for a possible drop in footfall after the money runs out.

Thai University Chamber of Commerce survey (7-13 Sep 2026, 1,720 respondents): average household debt is 794,945 baht, up 7.3% and the highest since the survey began in 2009. Monthly repayments average 21,935 baht, up 8.11%. Credit card debt (55.1%) and BNPL (14.2%, up from 6.2%) are the most common types. Expect customers to have less spending power and tighter cash flow, so consider tighter credit terms for customers paying on credit. Households cite energy costs as a key pressure. The survey also expects debt problems to worsen over the next year, with 44% saying they will get worse. Business loans are taken mainly for working capital (57.2%).

Oil-contaminated wastewater in Khlong Toey has been traced to a Bangchak Group fuel pipeline on Chuea Phloeng Road, after more than a week of inspections. The energy ministry says the operator and pipeline owner are liable for all damage. Repairs and a 32 km pigging test are required, and any irregularity means operations stop. For a Thai SME, the practical impact is limited: expect road works and possible access or smell disruption near Rama III bridge and Yannawa, and avoid assuming the area is clear until the official tests finish.

The US Federal Reserve raised its policy rate 0.25% to 3.75-4.00% by a unanimous 12-0 vote. The median dot plot points to one more hike in 2026, and 16 of 18 officials favour at least one more. The Fed says inflation from energy and tariffs has not eased as expected. For a Thai SME, this means US-linked funding costs and the baht may stay under pressure. Review any variable-rate or USD-denominated loans, and check whether your import prices (fuel, raw materials, US-priced goods) will rise. Do not change pricing yet, but plan for higher financing costs over the next year.

The Trade Competition Commission (TCC) held a focus group on 11 September 2026 with ride-hailing and on-demand delivery platforms, after earlier hearing from riders and restaurants. It will submit policy recommendations to its board by October; it says it will not set price caps. Platforms argue GP commission is not pure profit because it covers rider pay, technology, marketing and staff, and want one set of rules across agencies (Land Transport, Labour, ETDA, PDPC) and for unlicensed players to face the same standards. If you sell through delivery apps, watch for commission or fee rules; if you run a restaurant or deliver for apps, expect possible new service standards, but no decision is final yet.

The Agriculture Ministry is reviewing a leftover central budget of about 350 million baht to expand the fight against black chin tilapia over a 180-day plan linking 29 agencies. The Fisheries Department reports over 10 million kg removed since February 2024 across 21 provinces, and a new sighting of 41 fish at Lam Pao dam in Kalasin. Key rule for businesses: the fish is a banned alien species; keeping, breeding or moving it alive is illegal. If you farm fish or trade in aquatic stock, check your source and report sightings. Proposed 2027 plan is only 15 million baht, so no direct cost or income change yet.

Thai border and transit trade in July 2026 rose 27.9% to 212,314 million baht, with exports up 35.5%. Fresh durian transit to China reached 1,005,267 tonnes worth 124,658 million baht in the first seven months, and July alone was 211,058 tonnes worth 22,100 million baht. China remains the main outlet for Thai durian moving through transit routes. For durian growers, traders and logistics operators, demand from China is strong, so plan volume and cash flow around this channel. Border trade with Malaysia rose 55% in July, and diesel was the top border export.

The Tilapia Association says Thai output is steady at about 260,000-270,000 tonnes a year. Prices fell 30-40% because border closures since July 2025 blocked exports to neighbours and Cambodian workers, a major domestic consumer group, left. Prices have started to recover somewhat. Wild Mekong tilapia sold at 15-20 baht/kg is only a minor substitute. Government support so far (the Blue Flag campaign, 50,000 baht per province) has not fixed the market. Farmers should watch cash flow and sell-through, since unsold fish staying in ponds raises feed and holding costs. If you buy or process tilapia, expect softer raw-fish prices but a possible rebound.
