Thailand's digital ministry has a preliminary plan to classify data centres into five tiers by electricity use, up from three. Data centres buying green power through direct PPAs or green energy would get a cheaper tariff. Rules are not final: four sub-committees are expected to report next week, then go to the board and cabinet. Compliance rules are still unclear; a few businesses may need only small changes. Not an immediate issue for most SMEs; watch if you supply data centres or run one.

Bangkok has opened flood relief applications from 2 Oct (BE 2569), with the system expected to go live that Friday evening. Caps rose: house repair materials for a fully damaged home up to 88,600 baht (from 49,500); occupational tools and capital up to 13,500 baht per household (from 11,900); temporary housing up to 3,000 baht a month for 2 months. Apply online with photos, ID copy, bank details and damage documents, with no police report needed. Tenants can claim other items with a rental contract. Owners of small shops or trades affected should file the occupational-tool claim promptly. Elderly or offline applicants can go to the district office.

The Ministry of Industry counts 1,162 SMEs hit across 40 provinces, and the Thai Restaurant Association estimates over 5,000 shops in Bangkok and its vicinity closed temporarily. A small shop earns about 5,000 baht a day, so three shut days mean lost sales while rent, wages and utilities keep running. Current flood relief mostly covers housing damage (one floating restaurant got about 6,000 baht), not lost business income. Ingredient prices also jumped (spring onion from 5-10 baht to 25 baht a bunch). Plan cash buffers for flood-days, check whether your delivery or transport partners are running, and ask your bank or the government about business-loss support. Some government co-payment schemes pay in split overnight transfers, so confirm when funds land before buying stock.

The Thai General Insurance Association's residential disaster scheme starts 1 Oct 2026 and covers flood, storm and earthquake damage to about 30 million registered homes, including condos where each unit has a house number. Cover is capped at 100,000 baht per house, with an initial 10,000 baht paid before assessment. It covers built-in fixtures and walls, not movable furniture, appliances or trees. Homes used as factories, businesses or temples are excluded, so a shophouse or workshop that is also a home may fall outside. Damage before 1 Oct is not covered. Claims can be filed via LINE Official Account, call centre or on-site points with ThaiD login.

From 1 Oct 2026 the government buys free disaster insurance for 30 million households, covering flood, storm and earthquake for one year (renewed yearly). Flood payout: ฿10,000 immediately, actual loss up to ฿90,000 more, ฿100,000 cap per home. Waterlogging over 7 days adds ฿10,000. Death from disaster accident: up to ฿2 million per person. Events before 1 Oct get the old ฿9,000 relief. Claims are per event and cannot be double-paid for the same flood. For a shop or factory, this covers the home only, so check your own business property insurance separately.

The Thai General Insurance Association has named 11 insurers taking part in a catastrophe insurance scheme for homes. It covers flood, storm and earthquake damage in areas the government declares disaster zones, with a 150 million... no: a total cover cap of 75 billion baht a year across about 30 million homes. Payouts go up to 100,000 baht per house based on actual damage, with 10,000 baht paid up front. For a small business, this matters if you own or rent a home or shophouse you live in, or if your staff's homes are in declared disaster areas. Check with your insurer which policies are covered and whether your area qualifies.

The State Railway's MRT authority (MRTA) extended free parking by 7 days, from 2 Oct to 9 Oct 2026, at 6 MRTA-run car parks and 2 operated by the NBM and EBM monorail concessionaires. The free parking covers the flood-affected areas on the Green, Orange, Purple, Pink and Yellow lines. If your customers, staff or deliveries use these stations, plan for free parking until 9 Oct; after that, normal fees apply again.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department opened flood-aid registration from 2 October 2026, 08:00, via the "ทางรัฐ" app or at the local administration office (อปท.) or district office in Bangkok. It covers 65 provinces and Bangkok for floods between 15 May and 30 September 2026. Aid is one payment per household for a permanent home, including rented homes (the tenant receives it), with or without a house registration. Eligibility requires the area to be declared a disaster zone and, for most cases, flooding lasting over 7 days. If your shop or home was flooded, or you rent out property, register early and gather proof of damage.

The Finance Ministry says shops that already joined the Thai Chuay Thai Plus scheme must confirm their participation in the Tung Ngern app from 1 Oct to 30 Nov 2026. The programme is not taking new merchants. Customers confirm on Paotang from 1-15 Oct and can spend 60% support, capped at 200 baht a day and 1,000 baht in total, from 1 Oct to 30 Nov. Food delivery orders are allowed through the app from 06.00-21.00. Check your shop is still enrolled and confirm before the deadline.

Toyota Thailand has paused production at its four plants, with a tentative restart date of Friday 2 October 2026, because flooding has stopped parts suppliers (notably in Amata City, Chonburi) and kept staff from reaching work, especially in Chachoengsao. Toyota says it is reviewing daily and hopes to restart the following week. If you supply auto parts or run logistics, transport or food services tied to auto plants, plan for lower orders and delayed payments in early October, check your own staff commute and flood access, and keep stock and cash buffers ready.

Toyota has temporarily halted 4 plants because workers cannot reach them and parts cannot be trucked in. The Federation of Thai Industries says 5-6 more suppliers in the Bang Phli and Bang Pho area may stop soon. If you supply auto parts or logistics in those zones, expect delays: check stock buffers, alternative routes and customer delivery terms. Overall 2026 car production targets are unchanged, and the eastern production base is not yet affected.

Raw sugar futures are up more than 25% since July as analysts expect a shortage in the season starting this week. Drought in Thailand's cane areas adds to the pressure, and Brazil faces rain-delayed crushing. For a Thai business, expect higher sugar and sweetener input costs and possibly tighter supply. Lock in supplier prices or volumes where you can, and watch food-cost planning for the next few months. The article does not give Thai price or volume figures.

The Meteorological Department has ended its pilot of the Tomorrow.io forecasting platform while it studies more data; other vendors may be considered later. Minister Chaichanok Chidchob says the department's public communication is not good enough and must improve. He also says warnings should go out at roughly 60-70% confidence rather than waiting for 90%. Another low-pressure system is forecast around 9-12 October, smaller and on the Gulf of Thailand side, but still a flood risk because soils are saturated, dams are rising and drainage is blocked. For a small business, plan for flooding now: move stock and equipment up, and check the department's hourly updates early.

From 1 October 2026 NIA takes over vetting for the Thai Innovation List, which is aimed at government procurement first. Rights drop from 8 years to 5, renewable for up to 3 more if the product still counts as innovative. Applicants must pass all six tests: Thai-made value, novelty, quality and safety, market potential, supply readiness, and impact. The company must be Thai-registered with at least 51% Thai individual shareholders. Review runs on a 90-day framework and includes price checks by the Bureau of the Budget. If your product is a candidate, check eligibility and document readiness before applying.

From 1 Oct 2026 the state-funded "people's disaster insurance" covers flood, storm and earthquake damage to 30 million households. Covered: homes and shophouses where people actually live; the ground-floor shop counts if someone lives upstairs or behind it. Offices and empty homes are excluded, and furniture and electrical appliances are not covered. Condos: ground floor is covered normally; floors 2 and up only for flooding that surrounds the building for more than 7 days. Payouts need a declared disaster zone and real damage. First payment is immediate (10,000 baht for flood, 5,000 for storm/quake), capped at 100,000 baht per event. Claims cover only events from 1 Oct 2026 to 1 Oct 2027; earlier floods still go through the existing relief process. Claims can be filed online, paid within 15 days via PromptPay.

A Bhumjaithai MP has proposed amending the Thai PBS Act to end the roughly 2,000 million baht a year it receives from a 1.5% levy on alcohol and tobacco tax, and fund it from the annual state budget instead. The bill is only at the proposal stage. For a Thai SME, the direct impact is minimal, but if you sell alcohol or tobacco, note that the levy mechanism (including penalties for late payment) would be repealed. Watch whether it passes.

Flood expert Seree Supratid says Bangkok and the Central Plains should see no heavy rain for 10 days, but Chao Phraya flows at Nakhon Sawan are rising. Flows are forecast to peak at 3,000 cu m/sec, well below 2011 levels. Risk is highest for areas outside embankments in Chai Nat and Uthai Thani, and for communities downstream from Sapphaya through Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya, plus Noi and Tha Chin river areas in Suphan Buri and Nakhon Pathom. If your premises are in these zones, move stock off the floor, relocate vehicles to higher ground, and check drainage. Forecasts are reliable only about three days ahead, so keep watching updates.

Thammasat... no: Rangsit University estimates floods on 24-30 Sep 2026 across 31 provinces and Bangkok caused about 69.1 billion baht in damage across the farm supply chain (about 0.36% of GDP). Farmers bore 25.9 billion, processors 18.3 billion, consumers face 13.4 billion in extra costs, and exporters lost 5.5 billion. Rice and cassava exports fell about 4.4 billion baht combined. Restaurants and wholesalers/retailers report higher transport and ingredient costs. For SMEs: expect input and raw-material price increases and delayed deliveries in the coming weeks, and check whether the proposed debt deferral and recovery loans apply to your business.

Bangkok has raised several flood relief caps: house repair materials for fully damaged homes up to 88,600 baht (from 49,500), tools and working capital up to 13,500 baht per household (from 11,900), and temporary housing up to 3,000 baht a month for two months. Claims no longer need a police report and can be filed at district offices or online, with the online system expected to open the evening of 2 October 2569 (2026). Tenants can claim for non-house losses with rental proof. Document list and damage-assessment rules are still being finalised, so keep photos, ID copies, bank details and proof of damage ready.

Heavy rain has flooded parts of Bangkok and its vicinity. Alianz Ayudhya Insurance says motor and home/property claims can be filed online, and complete claims will be paid within 3 working days. Motor: file online and take the car to repair; for cars that cannot be driven, call 1292 press 7 for a tow.
