Flood relief of 9,000 baht per household (Cabinet resolution) is open via the "ทางรัฐ" app or local offices. Sai Mai district says applicants whose home has no house number need a certificate of residence for a home without a number; renters without the original lease can submit a lease or landlord certificate. Only one claim per household is allowed; duplicate claimants must cancel in writing with a copy of their ID. Forms are at the Sai Mai district office (2nd floor, Nopadol meeting room) or downloadable online. Relevant if you or your staff live in or rent in flood-hit areas, or if you're helping staff apply.

Google has opened synthid.com to the public for free. Upload a photo, video or audio file and it checks for an invisible watermark that AI tools such as Nano Banana, Veo and Gemini embed when they generate content. It is English-only for now. Also works inside the Gemini app, Chrome and Google Search. Limit: a "no watermark found" result does not prove a file is real, because many AI tools do not add SynthID. Useful for checking product images, fake reviews or suspicious payment-slip or ad media, but do not treat it as conclusive evidence.

The Revenue Department is taking comments until 29 October 2026 on a draft law to charge every departing passenger, all nationalities, 1,000 baht per flight, with a cap of 5,000 baht. Only air travel is covered in the first phase; land and sea are exempt. The law would take effect 180 days after gazetting, and tickets bought before then are exempt. Travel-related SMEs such as tour operators, airlines' agents and travel-heavy businesses should factor a higher trip cost into quotes and planning, and can submit comments before the deadline.

The NBTC board is deadlocked: six members held a special meeting after office staff did not support a separate session, and passed nine agenda items. The Consumer Council says at least 149 items are pending and will file a misconduct complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission on 19 October 2026 if the office does not support the board. For a small business, the direct impact is limited: the pending items include TV digital master plans and telecom network leasing. Watch for delays in broadcast or telecom licensing decisions that affect your media or connectivity costs.

From 1 October 2026, the national disaster insurance scheme covers homes registered with the Interior Ministry against flood, storm and earthquake damage in declared disaster zones. Payouts run up to 100,000 baht per household: 10,000 baht initial for flood (5,000 for storm or quake), with the rest assessed on actual damage up to 90,000 baht. Death from a disaster accident pays 2,000,000 baht. Claims can be filed online at thaiNATCAT.org, via LINE @ThaiNATCAT, or by calling 02-012-5555, with ThaID verification and a PromptPay account. Insurers aim to pay within 15 days of receiving complete evidence. Furniture is not covered, so business owners whose shophouse structure is registered at home should check eligibility and document damage with photos now.

Severe flooding continues in Chachoengsao, Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri, with a risk of Bang Pakong River embankments overflowing. Another round of rain is forecast from Friday to Tuesday, strongest in the west, then the South. Bangkok is mostly dry, but 80 communities reported some flooding on Thursday, including Lat Krabang, Prawet and Nong Chok, and canals are full in parts of the east. If your business is in or supplies from these areas, check stock, deliveries and staff access, and protect premises. Officials expect eastern conditions to improve significantly next week.

The BOT (Notification FX Supervisory Officer No. 38) now requires documents proving the source of foreign currency for each transaction of US$200,000 or more, for inbound payments such as goods/services, direct investment, securities or loans. Businesses pre-approved under Know Your Business (KYB), such as those with FX hedging or trade finance lines, or with at least one year of transaction history, are exempt. Gold-related inflows need documents at any amount. Cash FX over US$15,000 a day needs proof of import. Watchlist items (Thai property sold to foreigners, digital asset sales, other capital) need documents from US$200,000 with no KYB exemption. The rules take effect the day after Royal Gazette publication. Check with your bank now what documents it will ask for on large export receipts and gold or cash FX sales.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) backed renegotiating auto-renewing SPP and VSPP Non-Firm power purchase contracts and asked the NEPC to set clear contract terms and buy-back rates. The Energy Policy Office will propose return rates and a higher share of renewable energy after these contracts end. No dates or new tariff figures were given. For a Thai SME, this is a long-run electricity cost signal: no action is needed now, but watch for a tariff proposal that could change your power bill.

After floodwater recedes, check wiring, structure and moisture before repairing or painting

The Home Builder Association warns that flood damage often hides in wiring, structure and trapped moisture. Do not switch on electrics that were under water until a qualified electrician has checked them. Have engineers inspect structural cracks, sloping floors or doors that no longer close, especially after long flooding. Dry walls, floors and timber fully before painting or sealing, since covering damp materials lets hidden problems get worse. Follow the sequence Safety, Inspect, Dry, Repair.

SCB EIC sees Asia growing strongly in 2026 on AI investment, but oil prices and US tariffs remain risks for Thai exporters

SCB EIC expects Asian growth in 2026 to be supported by electronics and AI-related investment. Risks: a prolonged Middle East war keeping oil high, which feeds into production costs and inflation for energy importers, possible interest-rate rises by some central banks, and uncertain US tariff and trade-origin rules. For Thailand, the report names three opportunities: selling goods, services and tourism to richer Asian markets, linking into new regional supply chains, and moving up to higher-value production. Using these needs better workforce skills and technology. For a small business this is background: review energy and input costs, and watch US trade-rule changes if you export.

US 10-year Treasury yields have passed 5% without the sell-off seen in October 2023. The author says calm holds only if yields rise because of rates or profits, not because foreign buyers leave or liquidity tightens. He sketches three scenarios: high-for-longer (50%), a soft landing with a weaker dollar (25%), and a Fed pause that fails to pull yields down (25%), where the dollar weakens, foreign money exits and long-term funding gets more expensive. For a Thai SME this is background. Watch the baht, dollar-linked import costs and loan rates over the coming quarters, and avoid locking in new long-term fixed debt on the assumption yields will fall soon.

The Tourism Ministry is preparing a cabinet proposal for a 450 baht fee per foreign visitor, starting with air arrivals in Q1 of 2027 (2570). An online consultation showed 80.50% support, and the fund is projected to raise at least 8,000 million baht a year. Land and sea crossings would be deferred for one year. For tour, hotel, transport and tour-guide businesses, plan for a possible small cost increase per arriving guest and watch for the cabinet decision and effective date. The fee is not yet law.

Bank of Thailand data for Q2 2026 show commercial-bank lending to SMEs down 4.6% year on year, the 16th straight quarter without growth, while large-business lending rose 6.6%. Banks are tightening because of risk, and SMEs with thin financial records struggle to get credit. SME D Bank says it is testing looser loan criteria (borrower qualifications and collateral) in a sandbox with the Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Finance. In H1 2026 it reported disbursements of about 40,936 million baht (up about 12.4%), mostly to firms borrowing up to 15 million baht. If you are seeking funding, prepare clear financial records and check SME D Bank's programmes, since the bank says it also offers development support to borrowers not yet ready.

Several Thai life insurers have announced flood relief for policies falling due roughly 1 Sep to 31 Dec 2026 (some from 20 Sep). Grace periods run from 60 to 91 days; lapsed policies can usually be reinstated within 6 months with interest and health checks waived; lost or water-damaged policy documents can be replaced with fees waived, with deadlines around 31 Jan or 28 Feb 2027 depending on the insurer. If your staff or family hold life, health or accident cover, check each policy's due date and the insurer's flood-area declaration now, and confirm terms directly with the insurer before relying on them.

On 7 Oct 2026, WTI fell to US$88.28 a barrel (down US$1.16) and Brent to US$100.20 (down US$0.38) after the IEA agreed to speed up stock releases, with diesel first. The IEA says the release could add about 100 million barrels to supply. Prices remain near record highs amid the Iran conflict, so no fuel relief is guaranteed. Keep diesel and fuel budgets under review for the quarter, and do not assume a sustained price drop from one day's move.

Baht opens stronger at 33.64 per dollar as US bond yields hit a multi-decade high

The baht opened at 33.64 per dollar on 8 Oct, firmer than the previous close of 33.72, with a 24-hour range of 33.50-33.80 expected. The dollar is supported by US 10-year yields at 5.35%, the highest since 2002, and by expectations of further Fed hikes. US rates feed into Thai mortgage, car and credit-card rates, so a small firm with dollar-linked imports or loans should watch borrowing costs. Exporters should note the baht is strengthening, which trims baht income from dollar sales. No action is needed today; keep an eye on the range.
